An extraordinary handcrafted statement necklace uniting three remarkable natural treasures: Moldavite, Herkimer diamond and Libyan desert glass. There are also two small pearls at the closure at the back.

A raw, richly textured Moldavite sits above a large ornamental open frame. Suspended within it is a vertical arrangement of brilliant Herkimer diamonds and softly golden Libyan desert glass, each individually wrapped in fine wire while retaining its natural shape.

The open setting allows light to pass freely through the stones, highlighting the crystalline clarity of the Herkimer diamonds, the warm translucence of the Libyan desert glass and the deep green character of the Moldavite. Each element moves gently when worn, adding life and sparkle to the dramatic composition.

Libyan desert glass is a rare natural glass found in the remote Great Sand Sea between Libya and Egypt. Formed approximately 29 million years ago by an immense impact-related event, it is prized for its warm golden colour, translucence and remarkable ancient origin.

Individually handcrafted by an artisan jeweller in Bali, this is a bold, entirely one-of-a-kind necklace combining three celestial and impact-formed materials within an expressive sculptural design.

What is Moldavite & where is it from?

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.

From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.

It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.

99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.
