Bold in character yet beautifully refined, this distinctive sterling silver ring brings together the untamed beauty of Czech Moldavite and the delicate artistry of traditional wirework. At its heart rests a 0.95g natural Moldavite from Chlum, Czech Republic, surrounded by an elaborate arrangement of hand-shaped silver curves that give the piece its unmistakable personality.

The Moldavite possesses a fascinating, rugged appearance, with a deep olive-to-forest-green colour and an abundance of naturally formed ridges, grooves and irregular surface textures. Its broad, organic silhouette creates a striking focal point, whilst subtle variations in translucency lend the gemstone additional depth and intrigue.

Rather than enclosing the stone within a conventional setting, the artisan has created an imaginative framework of sterling silver wire that follows and complements its natural contours. Two prominent, sweeping silver loops cross the front of the gemstone, forming an almost symmetrical ornamental pattern. Smaller twists and carefully positioned strands add further intricacy, creating a beautiful interplay between the polished silver and the raw, earthy character of the Moldavite.

From the side, the ring reveals an equally impressive construction. The gemstone sits within a raised, open wire setting, allowing its natural edges and textured profile to remain visible. Beneath it, a slender sterling silver band features fine linear detailing, providing an elegant finishing touch without distracting from the elaborate centrepiece.

There is a wonderful balance of strength and delicacy in this design. The substantial appearance of the natural stone is softened by the graceful movement of the silver, resulting in a piece that feels both artistic and timeless.

Whether worn as a statement accessory or treasured as part of a Moldavite collection, this remarkable ring offers an appealing combination of natural history, individuality and skilled craftsmanship.

What is Moldavite & where is it from?

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.

From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.

It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.

99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is Moldavite, and where does it come from?

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.

Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.

Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.

To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.

Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
