5.4g Moldavite | 57.37g Total Necklace Weight

An extraordinary designer necklace combining a substantial natural Moldavite specimen from Chlum, Czech Republic, with Libyan Desert Glass, beautifully handcrafted in gold-plated sterling silver.

Exclusively created for Moldavite NZ by our Swiss jewellery designers and professional craftspeople based in Bali, this exceptional piece is a wonderful example of original design, quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship.

At its centre sits a beautifully textured 5.4g natural Moldavite specimen, securely held in a handcrafted gold-plated sterling silver setting. Suspended beneath the Moldavite is a striking, fan-shaped silver element featuring delicate, flowing surface textures that catch the light and complement the stone's rugged natural formations.

Adding another fascinating dimension to the design is a natural piece of Libyan Desert Glass, individually claw-set in gold-plated sterling silver and incorporated directly into the necklace chain. Its warm golden translucency provides a beautiful contrast to the deep green of the Czech Moldavite, while its carefully considered placement creates an additional point of interest within the overall composition.

Both Moldavite and Libyan Desert Glass have extraordinary geological origins, having formed through ancient high-energy impact events. Their pairing brings together two remarkable natural glasses from entirely different parts of the world, each with its own fascinating history and distinctive character.

Weighing an impressive 57.37g in total, this is a substantial piece of jewellery with a generous sterling silver content, finished in gold plating. The beautifully constructed chain, individually crafted decorative elements and carefully integrated claw-set Libyan Desert Glass reflect the quality and attention to detail invested in its creation.

The versatile chain design allows the necklace to be worn at approximately 47cm or extended to 76cm, offering two distinctly different looks.

A remarkable, one-of-a-kind creation for collectors and jewellery lovers who appreciate exceptional natural stones, substantial precious metal craftsmanship and truly original design.

What is Moldavite & where is it from?

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.

From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.

It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.

99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is Moldavite, and where does it come from?

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.

Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.

Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.

To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.

Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
