A beautifully sculpted 1.52g natural Moldavite specimen from Nesmen Les, Czech Republic, distinguished by its elongated form, lighter green translucency and pronounced flowing surface texture.
This specimen has a slender, irregular shape with a gently curved profile. Its surface features prominent longitudinal grooves, raised ridges, channels and naturally etched depressions that run along much of the stone. The uneven, serrated-looking edges add further definition, giving the piece a highly sculptural and almost organic appearance.
One of its most attractive physical features is its relatively light olive-green colour and strong translucency. Because this specimen is thinner than many heavier Moldavites, light can travel through a greater proportion of the stone. Under illumination, this produces brighter yellow-green to olive-green tones, while thicker ridges and recessed sections appear noticeably darker.
The pronounced ridges also interact dramatically with light. Their curved and irregular surfaces reflect and refract light at different angles, creating bright highlights along the raised areas and deeper shadows within the grooves. As the specimen is turned, these contrasts shift across the surface, making its intricate natural sculpting particularly visible.
The stone remains completely natural and unpolished, preserving the texture, irregular edges and surface relief that give the specimen its individual character.
Nesmen Les — les meaning “forest” in Czech — is one of the most prized Moldavite localities. It is particularly renowned for specimens displaying spectacular natural etching and deeply sculpted surfaces. Although the deposits are not completely depleted, they are difficult to mine, and relatively few quality stones emerge from this sought-after locality.
At 1.52 grams, this specimen is a particularly elegant example of Nesmen Les Moldavite, combining light green translucency, an elongated natural form and striking ridge-like sculpting.

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.
From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.
It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.
99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.
Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.
Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.
To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.
Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
