A striking 2.58g natural Moldavite specimen from Nesmen Les, Czech Republic, displaying the distinctive sculptural character and deeply textured surface for which this locality is highly regarded.
This specimen has an elongated, irregular form, tapering towards one end and broadening through the lower portion. Its surface is exceptionally textured, with deep grooves, pronounced ridges, pits and flowing etched formations running across the stone. The sculpting creates an almost organic, leaf-like appearance, with raised areas and recessed channels giving the specimen considerable visual depth.
Its colour ranges from light olive to forest green. When illuminated from behind, the thinner sections allow more light to pass through, revealing a brighter, translucent green, while the thicker portions absorb more light and appear deeper and darker. This variation is a natural result of the stone's uneven thickness, surface relief and translucency.
The deeply etched exterior also affects how light interacts with the specimen. Raised ridges catch and scatter light, while the deeper grooves create shadows and contrast, emphasising its rugged three-dimensional texture. It remains completely natural and unpolished, preserving the surface characteristics developed through its geological history.
Nesmen Les — les meaning “forest” in Czech — is one of the most prized Moldavite localities, producing remarkable specimens rivalled by renowned areas such as Besednice Jezkovna and Maly Chlum. Although the deposits at Nesmen Les are not completely depleted, the material is difficult to mine and relatively few quality stones emerge from this sought-after locality. It is particularly renowned among collectors for Moldavite with spectacular, deeply etched surface textures.
This 2.58g specimen is an excellent example of the classic Nesmen Les character, combining an unusual elongated form, dramatic natural sculpting and beautiful green translucency.

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.
From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.
It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.
99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.
Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.
Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.
To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.
Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
