A striking handcrafted copper wire-wrapped pendant combining a substantial 8.47 gram Maly Chlum Moldavite with a bright, naturally faceted Herkimer Diamond quartz crystal. Measuring over 5 cm in length, the pendant has a bold, elongated form that celebrates the contrast between richly textured green tektite and brilliant colourless quartz.

The centrepiece is a large natural Moldavite from the renowned Maly Chlum locality in the Czech Republic. Its deep green glass retains an extensively sculptured surface, with flowing grooves, rounded pits, rippling textures and a rugged, irregular perimeter. Variations in thickness create areas of lighter green translucency alongside deeper, almost forest-green sections.

Positioned near the upper side of the Moldavite is a clear Herkimer Diamond quartz crystal. Its naturally faceted, double-terminated form catches and reflects the light with crisp flashes, providing a luminous counterpoint to the darker organic texture of the Moldavite. The crystal is elevated slightly within the setting, allowing its clarity and three-dimensional shape to remain clearly visible.

Both stones are secured within an intricate framework of warm, antiqued copper. Sweeping copper rails follow the Moldavite’s asymmetrical outline, crossing its surface in graceful curves while leaving the majority of the natural texture exposed. Smaller coils and precisely wrapped junctions reinforce the setting and add decorative detail without overwhelming the stones.

The reverse is finished with equally careful craftsmanship. An open-backed framework reveals another side of the Moldavite, displaying broader etched textures, rounded depressions and its naturally jagged edge. Decorative chevron-like wirework runs along the frame, while the raised Herkimer setting and layered copper construction give the pendant considerable depth when viewed from the side.

A generously sized double-wire bail completes the design, wrapped in closely spaced copper coils for a substantial and cohesive finish. The warm reddish-brown metal complements the Moldavite’s rich green colour while providing a strong visual contrast with the clear quartz.

With the Moldavite alone weighing 8.47 grams, this is a commanding, one-of-a-kind piece of wearable mineral art. Its substantial Chlum Moldavite, brilliant Herkimer Diamond quartz and intricate sculptural copperwork combine to create a pendant with exceptional texture, contrast and handcrafted character.

What is Moldavite & where is it from?

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.

From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.

It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.

99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is Moldavite, and where does it come from?

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.

Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.

Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.

To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.

Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
