A beautifully handcrafted pair of Natural Moldavite earrings, featuring two richly textured specimens from Chlum, Czech Republic, with a combined Moldavite weight of 2.32g.

Each stone has been individually wrapped in silver wire by a highly skilled local New Zealand artisan, whose exceptional attention to detail and intricate wirework transform these natural specimens into beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewellery.

Our local wire-wrapping artisan has developed a remarkable ability to work with the irregular shapes and textures of Natural Moldavite, creating elaborate designs that complement rather than conceal the stones. Every twist, coil and carefully positioned strand of wire is shaped by hand, requiring considerable patience, precision and artistic skill. No two creations are ever quite the same.

These earrings feature elegant, elongated, leaf-shaped frames, intricately constructed with tightly coiled silver wire and delicate woven accents. Suspended within each open frame is a rugged, deep forest-green Moldavite specimen, held by gracefully curved strands of silver wire.

The contrast between the dark, naturally sculptured Moldavite and the refined silver wirework is particularly striking. The open design allows light to reach the stones while giving the earrings a lovely sense of movement and lightness.

Although carefully matched as a pair, each Moldavite retains its own unique natural formation and surface texture, adding to the individuality of these handcrafted pieces.

A distinctive pair of earrings that celebrates both the extraordinary natural beauty of Czech Moldavite and the skill of a talented New Zealand craftsperson.

What is Moldavite & where is it from?

Moldavite is a rare tektite or meteoric glass, caused by an asteroid impact 15 million years ago. The intense, 10,000°C+ temperatures of the strike vapourised the asteroid, target rock and sand, flinging the molten substance high into the atmosphere.

From the impact zone in Germany some 300km away, it landed back to earth in what is now the Czech Republic and as it flew, it cooled and solidified into translucent green, glass-like droplets of various shapes and sizes.

It is said that only 1% of what had originally fallen is still intact to this day and the estimates of the total amount of Moldavite remaining is under 300 tonnes. In comparison with gold or diamonds, this makes Moldavite 1000x rarer.

99% of all Moldavite is found in a small area in the southern part of the Czech Republic. It can be found on the surface but the highly prized, well-preserved specimens are found up to 6 metres underground.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is Moldavite, and where does it come from?

Moldavite is a rare, green tektite formed from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Czech Republic. This extraordinary stone is found only in a small region around the Moldau River in Bohemia, making it one of the rarest gemstones on Earth.

Authentic Moldavite has a distinctive surface texture, natural pits, and a translucent green color that varies in intensity. It is also lighter than glass imitations. To ensure authenticity, purchase Moldavite from reputable sources, and consider requesting a certificate of authenticity.

Moldavite is believed to be a powerful stone for transformation, personal growth, and spiritual connection. It is often used in meditation, energy healing, and other spiritual practices to enhance intuition, amplify energy, and facilitate communication with higher realms.

To care for your Moldavite jewelry, gently clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, or prolonged sunlight, as these can affect its color and structure. Store Moldavite separately to prevent scratches.

Moldavite is expensive due to its rarity and limited supply, as it is found only in a specific region of the Czech Republic. Additionally, its unique origins and increasing popularity as both a gemstone and a spiritual tool contribute to its high value. Prices can vary significantly depending on the size, quality, and uniqueness of the piece.
